Playbach No,1

In 1959 Jacques Loussier formed the "Play Bach Trio" with bass player Pierre Michelot and percussionist Christian Garros. They used Bach compositions for transcriptions into Jazz, Loussier played the piano instead of harpsichord or clavichord and the music was splitted between piano and bass with punctuation by the percussionist. Then they proceeded to improvise over the original Bach score. It started as an experiment, it was totally successful. A lot of jazz critics said the Trio is a hybrid and doesn't play good jazz but the listeners loved this music. Loussier was able to reach a wider public and brought Bach (and classical music) to a lot more people than just the ordinary classical audience
