These 18 compositions for string quartet, written by the long-standing bass player of the rock band OPUS, Peter N. Gruber, for this latest project at Gramola after many experimental solo CDs, are intended to abduct us into a distant garden. They are enthralling pieces with fascinating effects, cultivated from improvised music for the double bass, often with literary references, and immerse the listener in a realm of sound that can quench the thirst for tranquillity and deceleration in these hectic and boisterous times. The Frozen Fritz4 (Igmar Jenner, Andreas Semlitsch, violin; Simon Schellnegger, viola; Sophie Abraham, cello) interpret entertaining works with titles such as Apple John, Schäfchen zählen ('Counting Sheep'), Galgenhumoreske ('Gallows' Humoresque') or Mövenpicknick, whose conception transforms the profound experiences from the composer's 40 years as a musician, inviting the audience to participate in creating music through active listening.
