The Romanian-born pianist Meira Farkas was already on stage at a young age with great artistic personalities such as Itzhak Perlman, Rudolf Serkin, Pinchas Zukerman or Pablo Casals. After already two double CDs with piano works by Franz Schubert, which were enthusiastically received by audiences and critics, the great Schubert pianist Farkas now presents the third part of her Schubert recordings at Gramola. This includes the Piano Sonatas No. 1 in E major, D 157, No. 4 in A minor D 537 and No. 14 in A minor D 784, the four Impromptus op. 90, D 899 as well as Litanei (on the feast of All Souls), Erstarrung (from Winterreise) and Ständchen/Serenade (from Schwanengesang), three transcriptions of Schubert songs by Franz Liszt.
- The renowned critic Karl Löbl reviewed her first Schubert album: «With her, the sonatas never become lecture demos. Rather, they comprise a lyrical or dramatic, sad and occasionally even humorous monologue. Leave-taking from this world without a hint of wrath: in fact, almost heaven.»
