"Cosima Soulez Lavirière and Phillip Scheucheur chose four atmospheric pieces from the last hundred years for their graduation concert at Hanover’s Musikhochschule and for this recording. They capture the mood and intent of each composer with aplomb and finesse. Szymanowski’s Op. 30 Mythes, which includes the well known La Fontaine d’Arethuse, contains so many moments of exquisite beauty, as well as mercurial agility and pristine harmonics. Their interpretation of Hindemith’s first violin sonata, Op. 11 no. 1, is authoritative and played with energy and passion. American composer John Corigliano wrote his sonata in 1963 at a time when twelve-tone was the dominant style. His work, however, is lyrical but technically demanding, an aspect that does not daunt either performer, who dash off the last movement with sparkling virtuosity. The recording ends with a deeply pensive rendition of Kevin Puts’ Aria from 2000. A stunning debut recording!" - Susan Pierotti (AUSTA June 2025)
