"It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Bruckner Society of America's Board of Directors has chosen to present the Society's Recording of the Year award to the recent recording of Bruckner's First Symphony by the Altomonte Orchestra St. Florian, conducted by Remy Ballot, released by Gramola Recordings.

This recording is the penultimate release in a decade-long series of performances led by Maestro Ballot during the annual Bruckner Tage festival in St. Florian. The performance conveys the full depth of sonic splendor and expressivity inherent in Bruckner's score. The splendid recording, engineered by John Proffitt, captures the full sonic spectrum of the music and the acoustic space of St. Florian most effectively. We also salute Maestro Ballot for his choice of the Vienna version of the First, which as he explains he found most suited to his conception of the work. In short, we find this to be a disc of the highest quality. It is a most valuable addition to the discography and a very worthy award winner.

The Bruckner Society of America has been in existence since 1931 and its primary purpose is to foster a better understanding and appreciation of the life and music of Anton Bruckner. We can see no better way to do this than to lead people to extraordinary performances that have been preserved through recordings.
